This volume 2 of the Dynastidae of the World deals with the Nearctic and Neotropical regions, in other words, the New World. The reference book on the Dynastidae is the book by S. Endrödi "The Dynastinae of the Word" (1985) which is, in fact, the English translation of his "Monographie der Dynastinae" published in German and in 22 parts in diverse journals. All the species described up until 1985 are discussed with determination keys and studies of the genitalia. The aim of the present work is to allow the reader a fast and easy approach to the family. At the end of this volume new Dynastidae are described by R.-P. Dechambre. Un remarquable exposé du genre, abondamment illustré. Après un historique du genre Oryctes, agrémenté d'illustrations provenant d'ouvrages anciens, le genre est exposé en détail. Les cartes de répartition en couleurs montrent la dispersion des espèces. Pour comprendre les différences entre les espèces des dessins de détails anatomiques (tête, pygidium) mais aussi les genitalias sont représentés. L'illustration est abondante et particulièrement soignée, la plupart des insectes sont figurés de dos mais également de 3/4 pour bien voir les détails des protubérances thoraciques et les différentes cornes. A la fin de l'ouvrage 3 planches regroupent tous les insectes à leur grandeur naturelle, permettant ainsi au lecteur de mieux se rendre compte des variations.
