The number, provenance, and subject matter of these letters confirm that they are not the archives of the individual who gave his name to the house. Most of the letters are addressed to the king of Ugarit, the queen, and the prefect, and whoever the principal occupant of this large dwelling may have been, it is clear that he or she had close ties to the royal power. Almost all of them originate from abroad-encompassing a vast horizon, almost the entire Near East of the time-sent either from friendly courts or by Ugaritians established or sent on missions abroad.
