Centrée autour d'un baiser interdit ? et d'un mari jaloux demandant réparation au roi ? cette pièce obtint en 1871 le prix Teleki des arts dramatiques en langue hongroise. Elle fut représentée pour la première fois au Théâtre national de Debrecen en février 1874, où les tirades lyriques composées par Dóczi Lajos suscitèrent un grand engouement. Dóczi traduisit lui-même le texte en allemand, et la pièce fut donnée au Burghteater de Vienne en 1877 ; Richard Strauss l'adapta pour l'opéra sous le titre Ritter Pásmán. L'édition originale paraît chez Wodianer en 1873 ; la seconde et la troisième chez Ráth Mór en 1878 et 1881 ; une quatrième édition est publiée, toujours chez Ráth Mór, en 1886. Malgré ce grand nombre de rééditions, l'ouvrage semble peu représenté dans les institutions publiques. Pour les éditions en hongrois : un exemplaire de l'édition originale est conservé à la British Library. Deux exemplaires de l'édition de 1886 sont conservés dans des bibliothèques allemandes (Bayerische Staatsbibliothek et Humboldt-Universität). Toile légèrement assombrie, avec quelques taches.
