Por lo tanto, este estudio estaba interesado en si la clase trabajadora de Port Adelaide, Australia del Sur, mostró evidencia de respetabilidad. Para determinar esto se eligieron cuatro temas: templanza, la esposa en el hogar, actitudes hacia los hijos y horarios de comida. El análisis de estos temas se aplicó a conjuntos de artefactos recuperados de dos excavaciones. Deze studie was daarom geïnteresseerd in de vraag of bewijs voor respectabiliteit werd getoond door de arbeidersklasse van Port Adelaide, Zuid-Australië. Om dit te bepalen werden vier thema's gekozen: matigheid, de vrouw in huis, houding ten opzichte van kinderen en etenstijden. Analyse van deze thema's werd toegepast op artefactassemblages die uit twee opgravingen waren gehaald. Uit deze analyse is gebleken dat bewoners van elk van de drie locaties ervoor kozen om in verschillende mate deel te nemen aan de ideologie van respectabiliteit. Om dit te bepalen werden vier thema's gekozen: matigheid, de vrouw in huis, houding ten opzichte van kinderen en etenstijden. Analyse van deze thema's werd toegepast op artefactassemblages die uit twee opgravingen waren gehaald. Uit deze analyse is gebleken dat bewoners van elk van de drie locaties ervoor kozen om in verschillende mate deel te nemen aan de ideologie van respectabiliteit. De toepassing van de ideologie verliep echter niet soepel en dit proefschrift identificeert en verkent gebieden waar de ideologie van respectabiliteit in conflict kwam met eerder gehanteerde opvattingen.
