He was an Italian Renaissance architect and urban planner and citizen of the Republic of Venice. He is known for his work in both military fortifications and civil architecture, in which he combined classical Roman elements with contemporary Renaissance designs. The study includes his famous Venetian fortifications, the Porta Palio (Verona), and various palaces.
