All VG inside. Set owned by a W.S. Hubbell. Who SIGNS, dated 1844, vol 14 frontis verso. Each book's lower spine with Hubbell's name in gilt. Original half brown morocco with marbled boards. Covers badly scuffed (see pix) and worn. VG inside. Light aging and foxing but no soiling. Lower half of vol 11 with very light damp staining. Vol 11's upper board attached by only a single strand. All other text blocks tight, no loose leaves. Some inner hinges cracked but ALL hinges (BUT 11) sound. No plate indexs but half the vols with four or five full page plates; rest with none. Slips of paper mark locations of some plates. Entries by Poe, Whitman, Whittier, Hawthorne, Bryant, Lowell. Articals on abolition, death penalty, women's rights, Mexican war, indian removal. Vol 5 with an entry on Daguerre's newly announced "Photogenic" process. Several plates taken from Daguerrotypes. Vol 3 has but a single plate, on p 160, and that is a fold out.
