Elle est notamment utilisée dans le traitement de l'insuffisance pancréatique exocrine, secondaire à la pancréatite chronique, la résection pancréatique céphalique ou à la mucoviscidose. On utilise alors de la pancréatine, des enzymes pancréatiques gastroprotégées.
