The text was created from over 150 hours of exclusive interviews with Bono, Edge, Adam Clayton, Larry Mullen Jr and manager Paul McGuinness, conducted over the course of two years especially for the book by author and Daily Telegraph rock critic Neil McCormick. Photographs, documents and memorabilia were supplied from personal archives by the members of U2 and Principle Management. The book was art directed by Steve Averill, the man responsible for U2's graphic output from their very first poster in 1977 and designed by his associate at Four5One Creative, Gary Kelly." - from the rear jacket flap. "In 1975, four teenagers from Mount Temple School in Dublin gathered in a crowded kitchen to discuss forming a band. The drum kit just about fit into the room, the lead guitarist was playing a homemade guitar, the bassist could barely play at all and nobody wanted to sing. Over thirty years later, Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. are still together, bound by intense loyalty, passionate idealism and a relentless belief in the power of rock and roll to change the world. In an epic journey that has taken them from the clubs of Dublin to the stadiums of the world, U2 have sold over 130 million albums, been number one all over the world, revolutionized live performance, spearheaded political campaigns and made music that defines the age we live in. From the anarchic days of their Seventies punk origins, through their Eighties ascent to super-stardom with the epic rock of "The Joshua Tree', the dark post-modern ironies of 'Achtung Baby' in the Nineties and their 21st-Century resurgence as rock's biggest and boldest band, this is a tale of faith, love, drama, family, birth, death, survival, conflict, crises, creativity. and a lot of laughter. Told with wit, insight and astonishing candor by the band themselves and manager Paul McGuinness, with pictures from their own archives, U2 By U2 allows unprecedented access into the inner life of the greatest rock band of our times." - from the inner front jacket flap. "I always thought the job was to be as great as you could be." - Bono. "We wore it as a stubborn badge of pride that we weren't prepared to fall into line with every other group and take the fashionable stance of the day. We were uncool because we were hot, we just erupted as a live band." - The Edge. "We are trying to pin down something elusive, something that represents where we are, emotionally, physically, spiritually, but is also fresh and exciting. If it is not absolutely the best it can be, then why bother?" - Adam Clayton. "I have read a lot of rubbish about U2. Sometimes when I see us described in some mythic sense or called corporate masters of our own destiny, I have to laugh out loud. Being in U2 is more like riding a runaway train, hanging on to it for dear life." - Larry Mullen Jr. Averill, Steve (art director); Kelly, Gary (graphic designer) (illustratore).…

Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Near Fine. First edition. 1st printing. Dark-grey/black hardcover with silver lettering to spine, in pictorial dust-jacket. 268 x 321 x 31mm. 345pp plus index. Signed and inscribed, apparently by Bono, on front pastedown. The inscription reads: "Sarah - You're the best! It was such a generous act to bring your little sister to see us all those years ago. Victoria Hall, Hanley, will always be special to us - it was a great pleasure to play to you. Top of the morning to you, Bono x". This is probably not genuine, and I would guess it may have been written by the 'little sister' herself, on giving the book as a present to 'Sarah'. Apart from this writing, and a little minor edgewear to jacket, condition is as new. NB: An extra shipping charge may be requested for heavier or more valuable items.
