Three years after his retrospective, "Moving Out", Robert Frank moves on. This book is published upon the occasion of the 1996 Hasselblad Award given to this ground-breaking American photographer. Since 1994 his life has unfolded more truths and tragedies, and with this work he delves deeper to reveal new radical images. Containing work such as colour collages made in 1996, new sequential images such as "Memorial", "Today is My Daughter's Birthday", "North East South West" and the "Crows" triptych, this book should be of interest to all photography and art collectors. Featuring various fold-outs which reveal connections between the old and new photographs, the book illustrates how experimental, yet consistently true Frank's work is. , English, Year1997, Illust. B/W32, Illust. Color2, ISBN 3931141551, Code 5360. Hardbound with Jacket, Dustjacket slightly damaged., Bio. Pages 52, Size 12öx 7 1/2ö.

Aggiungi al carrelloAbout This Edition: The Hasselblad Award, (photography's equivalent to the Nobel Prize) was awarded to Eggleston in 1998 and accompanied by this brief but fascinating volume of the images that led to his nomination and, ultimately, his win. Clothbound hardcover with no dust-jacket (as issued), featuring a mounted photograph on the front board and gilt lettering in gold. Small mark/scuff to lower right-hand side of front board, otherwise an excellent copy. About the Author: A Guggenheim Fellow (1974) and member of the Royal Photographic Society, William Eggleston is credited with transforming colour photography into an accepted art form. Like the great photographer and contemporary Paul Strand, his artistic journey began with a gift ? a Leica camera from a friend ? which sparked a lifelong fascination with photographing everyday life. Influenced early on by Robert Frank and Henri Cartier-Bresson, Eggleston developed a style uniquely his own: quiet, vivid, and profoundly American. His skill lay in finding magic in the mundane; Eudora Welty, who penned the introduction to The Democratic Forest, wrote that a typical Eggleston composition could comprise of anything from: ".old tires, Dr. Pepper machines, discarded air-conditioners, vending machines, empty and dirty Coca-Cola bottles, torn posters, power poles and power wires, street barricades, one-way signs, detour signs, No Parking signs, parking meters, and palm trees crowding the same curb." (quote taken from The Democratic Forest). Eggleston was also known for his independence and protection of his privacy. Though he dated Andy Warhol's muse Viva (Janet Susan Mary Hoffmann), he was never quite part of Warhol's inner circle and avoided the fame that others sought.
