Dujols n°352, octobre 1912 : « ( rarissime ) Les Sentences de Sextius sont une réplique magistrale aux Vers Dorés de Pythagore. Elles les complètent et les expliquent. Pour bien comprendre la doctrine du philosophe de Samos, il est en effet indispensable de connaître les oeuvres de ses disciples, puisqu'il n'a rien écrit lui-même. Or, nul auteur n'est plus propre que Sextius à nous faire pénétrer jusqu'au fond l'enseignement du Maître. D'après ce précieux ouvrage, si peu connu et presque introuvable, les Pythagoriciens auraient été des Chrétiens avant la lettre, ce qui ne doit pas nous surprendre, puisqu'un Père de l'Eglise - « Lactance De Divin. Instit. 1. VII. 7. » - nous rappelle que « les Philosophes sont parvenus à la connaissance de toutes les vérités, ET A CELLE DE TOUS LES MYSTERES DE NOTRE DIVINE RELIGION » . Le dogme chrétien s'y trouve même nettement formulé avec la doctrine du Verbe enseignée encore à l'Ecole d'Alexandrie, la théorie de la GRACE et de la PREDESTINATION, en opposition avec le KARMA des théosophes, ce qui semblerait prouver que Pythagore n'entendait point la métempsycose à notre façon. Il y a là un arcane qui était dévoilé, peut-être, par Aristocrite, auteur du livre intitulé Théosophie, dans lequel il exposait qu'au fond toutes les religions ont les mêmes dogmes et ne diffèrent que par les rites et les cérémonies extérieures. Malheureusement, les écrits de cet ancêtre des Théosophes ne nous sont point parvenus. En nous donnant la seule traduction qui existe des Sentences de Sextius, le Comte C. P. de Lasteyrie les a fait suivre d'un commentaire anticlérical des plus violents. On y sent l'esprit des sociétés secrètes liguées contre la Rome papale ; car il ne faut pas oublier que le fameux Pantacle de Pythagore a toujours été le signe de ralliement des Initiés, qui figure encore comme un archaïsme au fronton de certaines auberges allemandes.
