Second and best edition. 3 vols., large octavos (28 x 21.5cm), wrappers, pp 356, 357-654, 655-1119. Vol. 1 contains a brief grammar of colonial Tzotzil, numerous photos, and a lengthy introduction to the efforts to create this dictionary; this is followed by the Tzotzil to English vocabulary, which also contains Spanish language translations of all the entries. Vol. 2 is English to Tzotzil. Vol. 3 is Spanish to Tzotzil vocabulary; as well, the final 350 pages are a photographic reproduction of an anonymous colonial dcitionary of Spanish to Tzotzil, never before pubished. Laughlin, our author, had a good sense of humor: he dedicated the work to Sen. Proxmire, the senator who had given the book his "Golden Fleece award" for taxpayer money misspent! This second edition is much enlarged over the first, from 1975, containing both a Spanish-Tzotzil section and the photo facsimile of the anonymous work mentioned above. Excellent condition.
