Dieses Buch beschreibt einen neuartigen Ansatz zur Vorbeugung von Brustkrebs, der auf der Wiederherstellung des funktionellen BRCA1-Gens in den Zielzellen mit Hilfe eines manipulierten Virus beruht. Tatsächlich haben Viren einen effizienten Mechanismus entwickelt, um ihr genetisches Material in Zielzellen einzubringen; von Viren abgeleitete Vektoren nutzen diese Fähigkeit, transgene Zellen zu transportieren. Zu diesem Zweck wurde ein lentiviraler Vektor hergestellt, der das BRCA1-Gen exprimiert. To this aim a lentiviral vector expressing BRCA1 gene was produced.
