Published on the occasion of the retrospective exhibition of the same name held at the Paula Cooper Gallery New York City in 2023. Presents "David Novros: Wall Paintings". Geometric abstract paintings that are about color, shape, and form: Intensely colorful paintings rendered in irregularly shaped multi-part canvases as well as site-specific works. "In 1966, one of his works was included in the influential exhibition Systemic Painting at the Guggenheim Museum New York. Novros gained recognition particularly for his 'portable murals', polychrome movable paintings in large formats that imitated sprawling wall paintings without being permanently fixed to the architecture of a building. After Donald Judd commissioned Novros to execute a fresco in his home and studio on Spring Street in 1970, he mostly focussed on creating his Wall Paintings, which he himself referred to as 'painting in place' " (Publisher's blurb). An absolute "must-have" title for David Novros collectors. This is a copy of the Limited Edition (of 250 copies). It is very prominently and beautifully signed in black ink-pen underneath his vintage black-and-white portrait by David Novros. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. This title is a contemporary art book classic. As far as we know, this is the only such signed copy of the Limited Edition available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: David Novros did NOT sign most copies of the Limited Edition. A rare signed copy thus. Lavishly illustrated with color plates. One of the most brilliant artists of our time. A fine copy.
