Softcover. Condizione: New. Reprint. Language: English. Approximately 264 pages. English: Print-on-demand reprint. Original edition : 1897. Text in English. This logbook documents four whaling voyages of the steam bark Alexander of San Francisco, mastered by B.T. Tilton and kept by W.S. Varnum. The first voyage (20 March 1897 - 3 November 1897) took the ship to the Arctic Ocean and Herschel Island (Yukon), with detailed accounts of whales sighted or captured, interactions with indigenous peoples, shipboard accidents, medical practices, and punishments. Subsequent voyages (1898-1900) similarly chronicle Arctic whaling operations, including encounters with native communities, shipboard incidents, and whale stamps. The log provides valuable insights into 19th-century Arctic whaling and maritime life. Varnum. Book images are non-contractual.
