Hardcover. Condizione: Good. No Jacket. Mildred Boyle (illustratore). 1st Edition. Haensel and Gretel, The Story of Humperdinck's Opera was adapted by Robert Lawrence and illustrated by Mildred Boyle. The book was published by Grosset & Dunlap, Publishers in 1938 and does appear to be a First Edition though it is not specifically stated as such. It was copyrighted by The Metropolitan Opera Guild, Inc. and is "The Authorized Edition. It is 7 3/8" by 9 3/8" and has 40 pages with a Suggested Recordings list on the last page and both black-and-white and color illustrations throughout the book. Though it appears to be a children's book, I do not believe that was the intent. I believe the book was published to help ANY opera buff understand the story behind the opera. It is NOT an ex-library copy but was once a gift to a younger girl and a previous owner pasted a card holder on to the back paste down end page and "organized" her collection. There is also writing on the flip side of the front loose end page indicating that the book was once a gift . . . and the young lady practiced writing her name in pencil. A nice little bit of nostalgia. It's in good condition (BUT the page opposite the title page has been removed) and has no dust jacket. I'm fairly certain that none of the books in the series ever did have dust jackets. Thank you!
