Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: As New. GORGEOUS LEATHER BOUND EDITION. Folio decided to give their finest permanent production standards to this magnificent edition. Full brown leather with gilt lettering and black decorative crosshatching on spine and similar artistic patterns with small gilt accents on the front cover. This has been so successful it is presented here in its fifth reprint. The frontispiece is a glossy photo of the great philosopher and thinker, Bertrand Russell; the whole book is then encased in a black slipcase. Bertrand Russell, 3rd Earl Russell, OM, FRS (1872 - 1970) was a British mathematician, logician, philosopher, author, Nobel Prize Winner and public intellectual. He had influence on mathematics, logic, set theory, various areas of analytic philosophy. As a prominent public figure and pacifist, he also lobbied against Communism, Stalinism, and nuclear proliferation. What is particularly appealing about Russell's grand overview of Western Philosophy is his clarity; this at a time when US and British academics are questioning the whole structure of Western democracy. This book presents a precisely targeted defence of Western achievements, and does so with a clarity and transparency that demolishes the puny attacks by largely Marxist believers. He avoids jargon and makes penetrating philosophical judgements that are clear and forthright The text is that of the Revised Second Edition of 1961.

Quarto, [two volumes], 812pp, [17 full page color illustrations]; 764pp, [5 full page color illustrations]. Three-quarter brown morocco, raised bands, title in gilt on spine, marbled covers. Winston Churchill's account of World War I was first published as The World Crises (in six volumes) and completed in 1931. Biographer William Manchester references the book and notes that ".his masterpiece is The World Crises. Magnificently written, it is enhanced by the presence of the author at the highest councils of the war and in the trenches as a battalion commander.".
