In the body of the letter, consisting of twenty-two lines, Leavitt writes that he is forwarding to Norris 'the Register with such additions and corrections as appeared necessary'. He will insert any further information in a few weeks. Regarding 'the sitting of the Courts' h…e states: 'If the Legislature of this State altered none of the sitting last June, they are correct in your Register for 1811. I think there is no alteration.' As his 'local situation is such' that he cannot soon ascertain particulars, he suggests George Sullivan. An eight-line signed postscript, taking the text to the foot of the first page, concerns 'Smith's "Herald"', which Leavitt has taken for three years. Nineteen lines on the reverse of the leaf are headed with a flourish 'Mr. Norris', and begin 'I have concluded not to advertise my Book Your Register [sic], but wish to in your Almanac, if you dont take any of them to sell except what you have of me, as follows.' There follows the text of a fifteen-line advertisement for 'The Scholar's Review', advertised as 'for sale at the Bookstore of C. Norris & Co, Exeter, C. Peirce Portsmouth, &c.' Norris's business correspondence is in the archives of the New England Historic Genealogical Society.
