Uniformly bound in blue cloth with vibrant gilt and red stamping upon spines. Both volumes with ink signatures of Mississippi Congressman Thomas G. Abernethy (1903-1998; in US House… of Representatives from 1943-1972) on their front pastedowns although both signatures now unfortunately obscured under several bold swaths of black marker. Bindings are still fairly crisp. VOLUME ONE: liv, 1-356 pages. With Foreword by Vicente Lecuna, second Foreword and Introduction by Harold A. Bierck, Jr., eight b/w plates including frontispiece, and nine maps. Light associated impression from aforementioned front pastedown marker onto opposing front free endpaper with stray ink mark at ffep's top fore-edge margin. Interior pages are otherwise bright and clean. Laid-in at rear endpapers is 32 page (plus covers) oblong booklet, H 15cm x L 22.75cm, with cover title "The Birthplace of the Liberator Simon Bolivar." Brown spine with green paper covers lightly toned; no author, publisher, nor copyright date provided; presumably a publication of The Bolivarian Society of Venezuela circa the same date as the set, i.e. 1951. Unsmirched ink signature of Congressman Abernethy on front cover's blank verso; features historical essay on pages 1-8 and b/w illustrations on remaining leaves. VOLUME TWO: paged as i-xvi, 357-822 (in succession to preceding volume). With four b/w plates and two maps as well as a cumulative Index for both volumes. Interior pages are bright and clean. Please note that this set has an approximate shipping weight of 5.5 pounds (2.5 kg) and will require additional postage for any postal class other than domestic Media Mail.
