With a colour frontispiece "The mobile policeman lay pinned beneath his motor-cycle" and further black and white illustrations throughout. The first story is "The Lights of Lambermere" by Bertha Leonard.

Presumed first edition (no direct statement but with matching dates upon title and copyright pages). 312 pages. Hardcover: H 24.25cm x L 15.75cm. No dust jacket (as issued?). Pebbled black cloth; light rubbing to boards; residue from removed sticker at lower spine with some shallow overlap onto adjoining lower boards; slight dulling/flaking to front board and spine's stamping but all still easily legible. Some foxing to text block edges; past owner's name/address label affixed to front pastedown; interior pages are clean. Binding is firm. A very good copy. Laid-in at front endpapers is the author's promotional brochure/order form announcing the first printing of Volume III and reprintings of preceding Volumes I and II. With Preface, a few b/w plates, and Index. Features fourteen essays regarding various facets of regional history of which the more interesting titles are: "Some Economic and Social Aspects of the History of Cullman, Alabama" by John Clinton Bright; "An Early Fayette County Home" by Marguerite T. This was published during a several-year time period when the Sierra Club did not stipulate the month of an issue, just the volume, the number, and the year monthly designations for such an infrequent publication having always been somewhat unnecessary in any case. Original printed wrappers, 9 1/4" x 6 1/4", 120 pp. + unpaginated photographic plates and ads, including hachure maps of Yosemite Valley and Kings River Canon (canyon), and a fold-out with bi-scale elevations of the same two locales. also, a plate with an illustration of the 14' tall monument, of galvanized iron with a brass base, installed at the top Mount Shasta in 1875 (destroyed by lightning in 1905). Very Good plus, really quite close to near fine; the major flaw being the common one that circuit binding (yapp binding) was used, in which cover edges were intentionally extended out beyond page edges, but over time the extended part becomes pressed inward somewhat (see scan). Early owner's signature at top of contents page. Otherwise, just occasional very small points of cover wear. A very handsome copy. See scans. Binding sturdy, contents fine.
