This book by the respected author Dr. Grünhagen explores the foundations of Chinese medicine, shedding light on the intricate relationship between Chinese philosophy and medical practices. The author meticulously examines the concepts of wu hsing (five elements), yin and yang, and the qi (vital energy) as they relate to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of illnesses. Dr. Grünhagen's work provides a comprehensive understanding of the holistic approach employed in Chinese medicine, where the human body is viewed as an integral part of the natural world. Through an analysis of ancient Chinese texts, the book reveals the evolution of medical ideas over centuries and their profound influence on the development of Chinese civilization. The insights offered in this book challenge Western conceptions of medicine, encouraging readers to explore alternative perspectives on health and well-being. By bridging the gap between Eastern and Western medical traditions, this book contributes to a more nuanced and comprehensive understanding of the human experience of illness and healing. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book offers an in-depth exploration of the enigmatic cult of Asklepios and its profound impact on the evolution of medical practices in ancient Greece. The author traces the origins of this cult, examining how it gained prominence as a central pillar of Greek healthcare and its influence on the development of early medical knowledge and techniques. By analyzing inscriptions and archaeological evidence, the book sheds light on the cult's rituals, beliefs, and the role of its priests as healers. It explores the significance of Asklepios's association with healing and the practice of incubation, where individuals sought divine guidance and cures through sacred sleep in his temples. Through a comprehensive examination of primary sources, the book provides valuable insights into the intertwined nature of religion, healing, and medicine in ancient Greek society, offering a deeper understanding of the foundations of Western medical practices. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. The institute was the first of its kind in the world when it was founded in 1906 and through its existence it gained much considerable relevance for the international emergence of a modern history of science and the source-based cultural studies. The institute was overseen by Karl Sudhoff, the most important historian of medicine of the 20th century, as was the annexed library that contained a high number of volumes sent (and sometimes even dedicated) to him personally. After Sudhoff's death in 1938 the institute was renamed to Karl-Sudhoff-Institut in honour of his achievements. All books from this library offered by us (about 2.500) were properly withdrawn from the Leipzig University Libraries holdings and bear corresponding marks (such as handwritten signatures on spines, stamps on titlepages or fly leaves). Aggiungi al carrelloHaarlem [1906]. Wrappers. 81 pp. Omslagtitel: Gerard van Swieten als censor. Texts in French and Latin. Pages uncut. l Gerard van Swieten (1700 - 1772) was a Dutch physician who from 1745 was the personal physician of the Holy Roman Empress Maria Theresa and transformed the Austrian health service and medical university education. Beside his medical activities, Gerard van Swieten was also active as a reformer. Especially the censorship was organised in a different way under his direction. He drove out the Jesuits that were in charge of the censorship before and carried out a centralisation of the censorship that was only partly successful. He also tried to use scientific and rational aspects for the judgement of literature. Especially important is his part in the fight against superstition during the enlightenment, particularly in the case of the vampires.
