In this book, Lemery provides methods for preparing chemicals, medicines, and various physics experiments. Each method includes an explanation and commentary for proper execution and preparation. Complete with half-title, engraved frontis and title page. Dr. Lemery (1645 -1715), French (al)chemist who reintroduced theory to chemistry in order to bridge alchemy an…d chemistry, making the emergence of the science of chemistry, independent of medicine, possible. The final separation from medicine, however, had to await the work of Boyle. Lemery wrote the most popular French chemistry textbook, Cours de Chimie (1675), and used a mechanical atomistic interpretation of chemical reactions. The first edition of the Dictionnaire was published in Paris (1698).
