Condizione: Good. No Stock Photos! We photograph every item. VHS in excellent condition in original, somewhat worn, sleeve. Built around the premise of a Big Stage Show, Stormy Weather affords rare "mainstream" leading roles to some of the era's greatest African-American entertainers Lena Horne, Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, Dooley Wilson, Cab Calloway, Katherine Dunham, Fats Waller, and the Nicholas Brothers. The thinnish plotline -- dancer Robinson has an on-again-off-again romance with Horne -- is simply an excuse for lively, well-staged performances. Of the fourteen musical numbers, the most memorable is Lena Horne's rendition of the title song, artfully staged by director Andrew L. Stone. Keep an eye out for uncredited contributions by jazz greats Zutty Hamilton, Coleman Hawkins and Taps Miller. Hal Erickson, Rovi. …

The text block and illustrations are in fine condition with no dogears, tears, or marks. There is no bookplate nor signature of a prior owner. This is not a library book nor a remainder. The wraps are in very good condition (scratch on front, bookstore label from 1988 on back, smudge at bottom of spine). 8 ¼ x 5 ½, 300 pages, 15 ounces XX [From the back cover] Her life has enough dramatic events to support a book; her convictions give the book fire; and her art is such that we join in applauding her (Chicago American). A BEAUTIFULLY HONEST BOOK. This is decidedly not another standard 'as told to' autobiography for the story sounds pungently like the lady herself: candid, outspoken, as severe on herself as on others, much more forgiving and understanding than many in the book have a right to expect, rich in wisdom and humor. Her story is a revelation on many levels. (Edward Jablonski, The American Record Guide). LENA BLOWS A SWEET HORN. These are muted, sometimes plaintive, sometimes shrill high notes of a life of triumph and pain and the search for identity (Kirkus Reviews). ENGROSSING. During 30 years on Broadway, in movies, clubs, and TV, she has formed some pretty astringent opinions. She provides fresh insights into Duke Ellington, Billie Holliday, Louis B. Mayer, Paul Robeson, and others. But she turns her most penetrating analysis on herself. And she isn't gentle (Milwaukee Journal). [Wikipedia] Lena Mary Calhoun Horne (June 30, 1917 - May 9, 2010) was an American dancer, actress, Grammy-winning singer, and civil rights activist. Horne's career spanned over 70 years, appearing in film, television, and theater. Horne joined the chorus of the Cotton Club at the age of 16 and became a nightclub performer before moving to Hollywood. Horne advocated for human rights and took part in the March on Washington in August 1963. Later she returned to her roots as a nightclub performer and continued to work on television, while releasing well-received record albums. She announced her retirement in March 1980, but the next year starred in a one-woman show, Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music, which ran for more than 300 performances on Broadway. She then toured the country in the show, earning numerous awards and accolades. Horne continued recording and performing sporadically into the 1990s, retreating from the public eye in 2000. Horne died of congestive heart failure on May 9, 2010, at the age of 92.…
