Zustand: Sehr gut | Sprache: Englisch | Produktart: Bücher | The subject of this book - whether or not to extend traditional telecommunications regulation to high-speed or "broadband" access to the Internet - is perhaps the most important issue now facing the Federal Communications Commission. The issue is also very contentious, with influential economic interests as well as academics on both sides of the question. Content providers - Microsoft and Amazon, for instance - argue that broadband providers should be treated as common carriers, required to transmit all content in a nondiscriminatory way. The broadband providers - the telephone and cable companies - argue that no bottleneck monopoly exists to justify such regulation and that, if imposed, it would stifle development of the Internet. This volume consists of recently updated papers that were originally presented at a June 2003 conference held by the Progress and Freedom Foundation. The authors are among the top researchers in the field of telecommunications research. Thomas M. Lenard is Vice President for Research and Senior Fellow at the Progress & Freedom Foundation. He is the author or coauthor of numerous books and articles on electricity, antitrust, privacy, and other regulatory issues. Lenard received his B.A. from the University of Wisconsin and his Ph.D. from Brown University.Randolph J. May is Senior Fellow and Director of Communications Policy Studies at the Progress & Freedom Foundation. In addition to writing a regular column for Legal Times, he has published more than fifty articles and essays on a wide variety of topics ranging from communications to law to constitutional theory. May received his A.B. from Duke University and his J.D. from Duke Law School.

Aggiungi al carrelloTaschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Hon. Orrin G. Hatch United States Senate Electronic commerce will be pivotal to the United States economy in the 21 SI Century. With the advent ofelectronic commerce, some consumers have become concerned about the disclosure, transfer, and sale of information which businesses have collected about them. These concerns purportedly are slowing the rate ofexpansion ofelectronic commerce, thereby putting at risk the future growth of the New Economy. To reduce this risk, a variety of schemes have been proposed under which the government would regulate online privacy. Congress currently is in the midst ofa vigorous debate as to whether the government should regulate on-line privacy standards, and, ifso, what form such regulation should take. This succinct yet powerful book by Paul Rubin and Thomas Lenard goes to the heart of these issues. It explains that there is no evidence of actual consumer harm or market failure that could justify burdensome government regulation of online privacy. It describes the tremendous advantages consumers currently receive from the free flow of information collected on line, advantages which could be eliminated if the government unnecessarily regulates and stops this flow of information. It argues that the free market provides businesses with compelling incentives to adopt their own measures - such as seal programs and novel technologies - to assuage consumer privacy concerns. This book presents compelling evidence to support these and many other points central to the continuing debate in the halls of Congress and elsewhere concerningonline privacy.

Aggiungi al carrelloHardback. Condizione: New. Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a chronic neurobehavioral disorder characterized by persistent and often acute distractibility, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. It is a condition usually associated with children but in recent years the diagnosis of ADHD in adults has risen significantly. ADHD often coexists with a wide array of other psychiatric illnesses, including depression and bipolar disorder, thus complicating its assessment and management. In Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in Adults and Children, a team of world renowned experts bring together the recent research in this area and cover the history, diagnosis, epidemiology, comorbidity, neuroimaging, and a full spectrum of clinical options for the management of ADHD. The wide ranging, detailed coverage in this text will be of interest to psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, coaches, physicians, or anyone who wants to develop a deeper understanding of the etiology, characteristics, developmental process, diagnostics, and range of treatment modalities.
