This book explores the multifaceted philosophy of Henry David Thoreau, renowned for his advocacy of transcendentalism and civil disobedience. The author delves into Thoreau's writings to illuminate his unique perspectives on nature, society, and the individual's role within them. By examining Thoreau's pivotal work " Walden" and his extensive journals, the book reveals the depth of his convictions and the complexities of his character. The author sheds light on Thoreau's critique of industrialization and its negative impact on both the environment and human consciousness. Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements or the degree of Master of Arts, Faculty of Philosophy, Columbia University. June, 1947. Stoller went on to a career as a professor of English and was considered a noted expert on Thoreau. Stoller died tragically at the age of 47 while a professor at Wayne State University. John Silas "Jack" Reed (October 22, 1887 Äì October 17, 1920) was an American journalist, poet, and socialist activist, best remembered for his first-hand account of the Bolshevik Revolution, Ten Days That Shook the World. Reed died in Russia in 1920 and is one of only three Americans buried in the Kremlin Wall Necropolis. The movie "Reds" is based on the life of John Reed.
