Leonardus Marius (1588-1652), docteur en téologie et chanoine du béguinage d'Amsterdam, rapporte dans ce livre le miracle eucharistique qui a eu lieu dans cette ville le 15 mars 1345 à la Kalverstraat et qui a été depuis lors célébré pieusement par la ville. A partir de 1578, Réfiorme oblige, la procession annuelle est interdite par la municipalité protestante ; elle continue néanmoins en secret sous la forme d'une marche silencieuse.
