The Loeb-Leopold case was one was on eof the most sensational trials of the twentieth century. It remained in the public imagination for decades and was dramatized by Hitchcock in his classic thriller Rope (1948). Clarence Darrow's famous closing argument, which he delivered in a three-day-long plea to the judge, argued against the death penalty and for life imprisonment.
