It is a practical adaptation of the theory for the planets of the Hecuba group. Tracing the history of this method one step further back, Bohlin s method is a modification of the theory of Hansen for the indeterminate case of nearly commensurable mean motions. The theory of Hansen is fundamental to an understanding of some of the mathematical developments in this text, and, given the importance of Jupiter in the perturbations of the Hecuba group, this book will be of interest to astronomers as a whole. This book is presented with the direct purpose of meeting the needs of the computer but it is not solely for mathematicians, and the author has attempted to make the order of computation evident to the reader. There are check formulae for the various quantities involved, and numerical examples are given throughout, including a complete example for (10) Hygiea. The author points out that the present work includes terms which may ordinarily be omitted, yet their numerical magnitudes depend upon the elements of the particular planet under consideration and their use is left to the computers judgment.
