ABFT emerges from inte…rpersonal theories that suggest adolescent depression and suicide can be precipitated, exacerbated, or buffered against by the quality of interpersonal relationships in families. ABFT aims to repair interpersonal ruptures and rebuild an emotionally protective, secure-based, parent amp ndash child relationship. The treatment initially focuses on repairing or strengthening attachment and then turns to promoting adolescent autonomy. In particular, the authors delineate five treatment phases, or amp quot tasks, amp quot which each have distinct goals and strategies. Thus, while the model is trauma-focused and process-oriented, it includes a structure and a clear roadmap for facilitating the reparative process. The chapters blend empirical research with clinical guidance, illustrative vignettes, and a case study. With its unique emphasis on the depressed adolescent's need for attachment and autonomy, this book will show family therapists how to create in-session, corrective attachment experiences where adolescents seek - and parents provide - love and support.

L'ABFT si inserisce nel più ampio qu…adro dell'approccio integrato relazionale evidence-based alla psicoterapia, ponendo l'accento sulla lente "familiare" e "sistemica" fondamentale per comprendere e trattare le problematiche psicologiche in età evolutiva. L'ABFT nasce da teorie relazionali che suggeriscono che la depressione adolescenziale e il suicidio possono essere innescati, esacerbati o contrastati dalla qualità delle relazioni interpersonali presenti nelle famiglie. L'ABFT mira a riparare le rotture interpersonali e a ricostruire una relazione genitori-figli emotivamente protettiva e sicura. Il trattamento si concentra inizialmente sulla riparazione o sul rafforzamento del legame di attaccamento, per poi passare alla promozione dell'autonomia dell'adolescente. In particolare, gli autori delineano cinque fasi di trattamento, o "compiti", con obiettivi e strategie distinte. In questo modo, pur essendo incentrato sul trauma e orientato al processo, il modello ABFT da una chiara indicazione clinica volta a facilitare il processo riparativo. I capitoli integrano la ricerca empirica con le indicazioni cliniche, le schede illustrative e un caso clinico di studio. Considerando il bisogno simultaneo di attaccamento e di autonomia caratterizzante l'adolescenza, questo libro mostrerà ai clinici come creare esperienze terapeutiche di attaccamento trasformative, nella quale gli adolescenti imparano a cercare - e i genitori a fornire - amore e sostegno in un setting familiare.
