Paperback. Condizione: New condition. 1st ed? (No additional printings listed. Hobe Sound, Florida: Divina Press, 2024. NEW and unread in near PERFECT condition with only a tiny bit of very mild shelfwear (like you sometimes find in any new book store). NO chips, tears or fading. Square and tight. NO underlining. NO highlighting. NO margin notes. We have only this one copy, but it is available now and ready to ship today from Henderson, Nevada. Bound in the original brown pictorial wraps, with numerous photos of Jerry Lewis, most in full color, on the front and rear covers. From GoodReads: "Jerry Lewis was one of the most loved comedians and movie stars of the 20th century and an influential philanthropist who changed how Americans gave to charities. He was born on 16 March 1926 to Vaudevillian parents. He became a regular on the nightclub circuit in 1943, but when he performed with Dean Martin in 1946, his life changed forever. By 1952, Martin and Lewis were the world's #1 box office stars and radio and television stars. Jerry went on to write, produce, direct, and star in many of his films. Since his idol Charlie Chaplin, he was the first big-name star to do it successfully, becoming a top box office star. Jerry Lewis on Being a Person traces the character of this aptly famous personality primarily through a depiction of the philosophy with which Jerry lived his life, ran his productions, and related with his lifelong friends. Humorous, as one might imagine anything associated with Jerry would be, it is also poignant, especially regarding the personalities he knew through his Telethons for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Jerry loved people, and they loved him back. In 1949, Jerry told Dean he wanted to help families fighting muscular dystrophy. Martin and Lewis became the public faces of the newly formed Muscular Dystrophy Association in 1951 until 1956. Jerry became the organizationÂ's National Chairman and raised over 2 billion dollars for research and clinical care from 1952 to 2010. This full-color book, written from first-hand accounts of his son, is an intimate portrait of a complex and sometimes misunderstood man. It includes family background, the genesis of the phenomenal decade-long Martin and Lewis partnership, and interviews with friends and personalities closest to Jerry during the MDA Telethons. Packed with over 300 photographs (most never-before-seen) and original drawings, the book pays tribute to the legacy of the comic who captured the hearts of Americans and many millions of people worldwide." . 1st ed? Hardback. Condizione: New. Heat and energy form the backbone of modern physics, but the ideas are not intuitive for most students beginning their study of physics. Instructors spend much valuable time in the classroom and lab explaining such concepts as entropy, thermodynamics, and the conservation of energy. But, as educators know, such ideas can become clearer if students learn how the scientists who developed these concepts came to their discoveries through experimentation and observation. This volume in the Greenwood Guide to Great Ideas in Science series provides a historical perspective to heat and thermodynamics, providing readers with an accessible introduction to the people whose work led to our profound understanding of the nature of the universe.Originally stimulated by the invention of the steam engine during the Industrial Revolution, thermodynamics developed into a universally applicable and powerful scientific theory.Heat and Thermodynamics includes illustrations, a bibliography, timeline, and glossary for students who wish to research the subject in more detail.Heat and Thermodynamics shows readers how the powerful ideas of energy and heat were developed by scientists over the centuries: Explores the history of the ideas of what heat was from the ancient element of Fire through the notion of heat as an indestructible fluid - caloric - of the 18th century. Explains the revolutionary experiments of Sadi Carnot, James Joule, and others as they develop the early theories of thermodynamics Discusses great scientists such as Lord Kelvin, and their theories that helped formalize the new ideas of heat and energy.…
