The attribution of fair" requires some qualification. The cover is printed on a kind of brittle card and the book block is on deckle edged and possibly hand made fairly thick laid paper thus in consequence one page varies in dimensions from the next and occasional, though not many, sheets have cracked at the edge, However the book block itself is clean and generally tight although the outer covers have cracked extensively at the edges. . . . . . The author, later Sir Lewis Dibden, was an Ecclesiastical lawyer and Chancellor of the Dioceses of Exeter and Rochester. The front fly carries a couple of handwritten lines in ink gifting the book to "Mr D [?] from L T D Nov. 26 1890" just after publication on 12 November 1890. . . . Scarce. Not in NSTC.
