Soft cover. Condizione: Good. Please see any and all photos connected with this listing. A bit scuffed but all pages intact and legible. Good reading copy. Clean. Store Stamped. --- --- 1969 ISSUE --- Shifting seamlessly between past and present, consciousness and dreams, Lila Karp explores the conflicted psyche of thirty-two-ye…ar-old Harriet Battenberg as she inventories her life during a fourteen-hour labor. Wrenching flashbacks recall embittering conflicts with her mother, unfulfilling relationships with men, a miscarriage, and an abortion. Harriet's struggle above all is to understand how her perception of womanhood has brought her to this moment of personal crisis. . . . .Lila Karp halts time in the midst of exploring the psychological and sexual entanglements of a woman's experience. Her wit and distinct literary style make hers a unique voice among writers from the 1960s U.S. feminist movement, a voice that still resounds today for everyone fighting to find themselves and write their own histories and futures. The Queen is in the Garbage is a shocking and absorbing story that uses a feminist perspective to deconstruct fundamental questions of womanhood, autonomy, and the very essence of human existence. . .See photos for additional content. . .

FIRST EDITION, ex-library, octavo hardcover (VG) in d/w (VG); all our specials have minimal description to keep listing them viable. They are at least reading copies, complete and in reasonable condition, but usually secondhand; frequently they are superior examples. Ordering more than one book may reduce your overall postage co…sts.

Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. 1st Edition. First Edition (The Vanguard Press=NAP). This book is in truly excellent condition. You can see the covers in the photos provided. They are exceptionally clean. The gilt and red lettering on the spine is very bright. The edges and corners are free… of any wear. The spine ends have just a tiny bit of crinkling. The page edges are exceptionally clean. The book is square and very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages and covers. The inside covers and end papers are a bright yellow. They too are exceptionally clean. That accurately describes all of the pages in the book. I scrolled through without finding any instances of soiling. The only imperfection I see is a small and very light crease off the bottom edge of the pages on both sides of their junctures, probably the result of a bump. These small creases are far from the print. There are no corner creases to be found anywhere in the book. There are no markings. There are no attachments. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere. The dust jacket is in solid condition. You can see it in the first few photos. It's quite clean. It has some crinkling at both spine ends. There is a little bit of scuffing at the bottom edge of the spine and just adjacent, as well as two small spots on the rear side of the spine. There is one very tiny tear off the top edge of the front. I don't see any other tears. The jacket's flaps are in very good condition. They both have a little bit of toning just off their top edges. They're otherwise very clean. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. It will be fitted with a protective cover after the photos are scanned. Here are a few blurbs from the front flap of the jacket: "Compulsively readable"-- The Oxford Mail; "A complete picture of a personality, accompanied by a dramatic plot that becomes as exciting as a murder story"-- The New Statesman; "In often gamey terms, this stream-of- consciousness account of a her when who couldn't say no gives a graphic picture of man's inhumanity to woman, also of mother-daughter warfare."-- Caroline Bird (British poet, playwright and feminist). 'Lila Karp (1933-2008) was an activist, writer, teacher and feminist. She is known for her novel The Queen is in the Garbage, and is profiled in the book Feminists Who Changed America, 1963-1975. She was among the second-wave feminists in New York in the 1960s and was a member of The Feminists. This group included such notables as Kate Millet, Flo Kennedy, Ti--Grace Atkinson, and Margo Jefferson. Ms. Karp was featured in the 1977 documentary Some American Feminists. She played a vital role in pioneering the field of Women's Studies at Princeton University, where she served as the director of the University Women's Center. She delivered a paper on the subject entitled "Women's Studies: Fear and Loathing in the Ivy League" at the National Women's Studies Association Meeting in 1979. She was appointed the co-director of The Institute for the Study of Women and Men at the University of Southern California in 1991.'.
