This set is a taxonomical work, revealing the surprisingly abundant number of species of orchids that may be found on the relatively small island of Taiwan. A total of 271 species are introduced and arranged alphabetically for ease of reference. Line drawings, colour photos and some illustrations of dissected flowers, as well as some historic (1935) watercolours have been incorporated. Under each species, taxonomic disposition, geographic distribution, flowering time and ecological information is provided. Of particular note is that 11 species, in 7 genera, are described in this set for the first time. Originally planned as a four volume set, only three were ever published. Preface, acknowledgments and introduction in Chinese. All descriptions in bilingual English/Chinese. Vol. 1 (1975): 268 pp., 160 col. photos, 93 line drawings, map; Vol. 2 (1977): 353 pp., 170 col. photos, 5 watercolours, 109 line drawings; Vol. 3 (1987): 300 pp., 170 col. photos, 2 watercolours, 106 line drawings.
