The first volume printed in two physical books (1 volume in 2). 7 1/2 inches by 10 1/8 inches. 3/4 leather gilt over marbled boards, speckled page edges. Leather rubbed a touch at the high points. Previous owners name (Susan B. Hutchins) on front endpaper in both volumes. Boards. The English translation of the first (and most extensive part) of the third German edition of "Handbuch der pflanzenkrankheiten." This work, in it's many various editions, has been a standard in the field, eventually reaching seven parts. To the best of our knowledge no other English translations were done for parts of this work. "Through his work, [ Dr. Paul ] Sorauer has decisively contributed to the development of phytomedicine into an independent science. His 1874 published "Handbook of Plant Diseases" is continued today by colleagues. Parts of this now multi-volume standard work of phytomedicine are already in seventh edition." (german wiki). …
