Hardcover. Condizione: Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Fair. 1st Edition. Presentation Copy, Signed on the half-title page by the Author & Signed & Inscribed by her husband: "Anne Lindberg/Charles Lindberg/To President De Valera/January 1937" with an original photograph of Charles Lindberg, Eamon De Valera and retinue loosely in…serted. Charles Lindberg achieved global fame in 1927 for completing the first solo nonstop transatlantic flight from New York to Paris in the Spirit of St. Louis. He visited Ireland in November 1936 and was formally welcomed by Éamon de Valera, then head of the Irish government. Lindbergh helped select and develop Foynes on the Shannon estuary as the main base for flying boats, enabling the first direct commercial passenger flights across the Atlantic. This effort led to the later establishment of Shannon Airport and gave Ireland a strategic role in international aviation. De Valera's involvement demonstrated the government's commitment to modern civil aviation, while Lindbergh's technical expertise and global reputation supported Ireland's early aviation ambitions. Anne Morrow Lindbergh was herself an accomplished aviator - she served as her husband's co-pilot, navigator, and radio operator on many of his exploratory flights. She had earned her pilot's license in 1930 and was the first American woman to earn a first-class glider pilot's license. [Note: de Valera was President of the Executive Council until 29 December 1937, when the new constitution was enacted. On that date, de Valera's post automatically became that of Taoiseach].
