Otherwise, light wear. 123 pages + 63 pages of plates featuring portraits of distinguished Kentuckians. Signed twice by J. Stoddard Johnston on separate front endpapers. The first signature is accompan…ied by "Louisville, KY". The second signature, dated Nov. 23, 1906, is part of an inscription by the author to the Commercial Club Library. A small plate on the inside front cover reads: "Greater Louisville Exposition, Louisville Authors, Given by Commercial Club." J. Stoddard Johnston served in the Confederate army as a distinguished staff officer to Gens. Bragg, Buckner and John C. Breckinridge during the Civil War, rising to the rank of Lt. Colonel; as Kentucky Secretary of State from 1875-79, and as Vice-President of the Louisville Filson Club from 1893 to his death in 1913. Rare volume and very rare signature. Signed by Author(s).

A missionary account. In 1888 Susan Wilson accompanied her husband Alpheus Waters Wil…son during his bishop tours to Asia due to his poor health, leaving three daughters in the US. Her letters home were published serially, before being collected in this edition. She writes of missionary life in Japan, China, India and Egypt, before making a brief stop in Europe and returning home. Somewhat scarce. Most records appear to be for digital copies, with perhaps 7 copies being physical in OCLC.
