Auerbach è un'artista nota soprattutto per i suoi lavori a maglia.La fotografia è stata la disciplina che ha studiato per il suo MFA, ma, non avendo accesso a una camera oscura, ha usato il lavoro a maglia come modo economico per fare arte. I suoi modelli di maglia sono spesso creati digitalmente e con una macchina per lavorare a maglia. ?Mentre gli slogan e i cartelli di Auerbach sono politicamente schietti, il suo umorismo infonde l'opera con sottigliezza, goffaggine, derisione e autoironia, a volte tutto insieme?.Il suo più significativo progetto, il Body Count Mittens, consiste in una serie di guanti sui quali viene prodotta l'immagine di una pistola con una data e un numero che corrisponde ai soldati americani uccisi ogni giorno in Iraq. Durante i due giorni di attività, abbiamo noleggiato monocicli a oltre 50 persone al prezzo di dieci centesimi all'ora. La maggior parte dei noleggiatori era alle prime armi e ha affrontato la sfida del monociclo con entusiasmo e vigore. Non erano rare le cadute sulla sabbia soffice. Alcuni visitatori sono diventati piuttosto ossessionati dal monociclo. Il sole batteva a 90 gradi e i monociclisti erano coperti di sudore e sabbia. Sebbene l'Unicycle Shop fosse completamente equipaggiato con attrezzature e un tecnico certificato per il primo soccorso, l'incidente peggiore è stato una scheggia non collegata al monociclo.
