Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book commemorates the establishment of Lithgow Library and Reading Room in Augusta, Maine, originally founded in 1872 as the Augusta Literary and Library Association. The book, illustrated with portraits and reproductions of original documents, traces the efforts of the institution's founders to develop the library and foster a love of reading in the Augusta community. The author describes the library's early struggles, which included financial difficulties and a lack of permanent space, before the generous bequest from Llewellyn W. With additional support from Andrew Carnegie in 1892, the library was able to construct a permanent building, which opened in 1895 and remains in use today.
