Aggiungi al carrelloSingle-side card, approximate dimensions H 8.25cm x L 15cm. Gray card with mostly horizontal text lengthwise across top and bottom and vertical text at left and right edges; center b/w image (12.75cm long) of bottle of Lilly's Liquid Blaud for treatment of anemia; image is oriented for the vertical axis (in opposition to the pri…marily horizontal text) so that bottle top is at left edge and bottle bottom at right. Primary text: "Each Teaspoonful Represents Five grains Blaud's Mass. Mix Dose With Water. Ferrous Carbonate is Formed At Time Of Taking. Exhibits Ferrous Carbonate In Nascent State, The Most Soluble And Assimilable Form. Does Not Constipate Or Disturb The Stomach . . " Undated but graphic style seems contemporary to circa 1910-1920 or perhaps even earlier. Discreet imprint at lower left corner of Indpls. Litho. Co. Foxing and light creasing at left edge, short closed tear at top edge slightly affecting a few letters of text. Blank verso side has stronger foxing at edge and both old red and faded brown pen ink transfer and smudging as if it was rubbed against a note pad or some other handwritten document. A good copy of an uncommon Eli Lilly and Company promotional trade card.

Aggiungi al carrelloNo Binding. Condizione: Good. This vibrant color lithograph poster heralds the vaudeville act of Daisy and Violet Hilton famously billed as "San Antonio's Siamese Twins." Produced by Quigley Litho. Co. in Kansas City, Missouri, circa 1927 1930, Color lithograph on early-20th-century wove paper. Mounted on linen. Some dampst…aining at the left edge. This vibrant color lithograph poster heralds the vaudeville act of Daisy and Violet Hilton famously billed as "San Antonio's Siamese Twins." Produced by Quigley Litho. Co. in Kansas City, Missouri, circa 1927 1930, the image captures the twins around the age of twenty, each posed with a saxophone in hand. Though marketed as San Antonio's, the Hiltons were born in 1908 in Brighton, England, and thrust into the world of entertainment by an exploitative guardian. Their early years were spent performing across Europe before their arrival in the United States in 1916, where further management challenges followed. Despite their difficult beginnings, they honed their talents evidenced by their vaudeville dance routines, including a noted performance with a then-unknown Bob Hope in 1926 and later successfully fought for their independence by breaking their management contract in 1931. Celebrated for their crossover appeal from sideshow novelty to mainstream variety and cinema, the Hilton twins graced the famed Orpheum vaudeville circuit, appeared in Todd Browning's cult film Freaks, and headlined Chained for Life, a fictionalized portrayal of their struggles in show business. While they once enjoyed lucrative success, their fame waned with the decline of vaudeville, and later in life they found employment in a supermarket in Charlotte, North Carolina. This poster, issued before they secured their independence, serves as a poignant reminder of the twins complex and bittersweet legacy in American entertainment history. Map.

Aggiungi al carrelloCondizione: Fine. Color lithograph â"â" 29 1/4 x 38 3/4 inches â"â" A dramatic Barnum and Bailey circus poster for Ludger Sylbaris: âThe Only Living Object that Survived the âSilent City of Deathâ where 40,000 Human Beings were Suffocated, Burned or Buried by One Belching Blast of Mont Pelee's Terrible Volcanic Eruption.â ||| Th…e 1902 eruption of Mount Pelà e on the island of Martinique was one of the deadliest volcanic eruptions in history. In May of 1902, a massive pyroclastic flow engulfed the town of Saint-Pierre, known as "the Paris of the Caribbean," totally destroying it. More than 28,000 inhabitants were killed, and only a handful survived, most of whom subsequently succumbed to their burns. ||| Ludger Sylbaris (Louis-Auguste Cyparis)The most famous survivorâ"often claimed to be the only survivorâ"lived because he had been imprisoned the previous night for brawling. As described in a 1903 account published in the Kingston Freeman: ||| âIn an altercation with a rival In a rustic love affair, he struck his opponent, was arrested for assault, and, unable to pay his fine, was sent to the jail at St. Pierre. It was during his incarceration there that Mount Pelee broke loose. Without realizing what was going on in the outside world, Sylbaris found himself forsaken by the jailer and left to die of starvation. Then, as the lava and scoriae began to fall upon the old stone jail, the heat became unbearable, and for hours at a time the lonely prisoner fairly danced upon the stone floors to save himself from being roasted alive. There, when the worst of the eruption was over, good Pere Marie, the parish priest, found him. There was no necessity for legal proceedings to secure his release. Those who had committed him to jail were dead.â ||| His crime forgotten, Sylbaris was pardoned and, by now something of a global celebrity, he was engaged by Barnum and Bailey and promoted as "the man who lived through Doomsday" or "the Most Marvelous Man in the World."After several months of touring, Sylbaris was thrown out of the circus for repeatedly fighting with other staff while drunk and other such antics. ||| In 1903, the Brooklyn Daily Times ran an article about Sylbaris titled, âCIRCUS FREAK ESCAPED BUT LOVE WAS TOO STRONGâ¦Only Survivor of St. Pierre Returned to Woo an Equistrienne.â The article claimed Sylbaris left his tent on Halsey Street, but quickly returned because he could not bear to be away from Helen Girard, a performer with the show. ||| He was eventually expelled from the United Stated and he later moved to Panama, working on the construction of the Panama Canal and lived there until his death of natural causes in 1929.
