Shur that reads: "To Lisa Lisa [?] Sincerest regards. Irene G. Shur 5-25-00". About the editors: Franklin Hamlin Littell (June 20, 1917 May 23, 2009) was an American Protestant scholar. He is known for his writings rejecting supersessionism and, in light of the Holocaust, advocated educational programs to improve relations between Christians and Jews. Dr. Irene G. Shur, Professor of History, West Chester University, forerunner and teacher in Holocaust education, has produced teaching units on the subject and has founded the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR HOLOCAUST EDUCATION, an association of professors who teach the Holocaust and meet annually to exchange ideas and materials (Source: Dust Jacket). Dr. Claude R. Foster, Jr., Professor of History, West Chester University, author of numerous articles on religion, revolution, and religious liberty, contributed to the special Holocaust issue of THE ANNALS OF THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF POLITICAL AND SOCIAL SCIENCE in 1980, "Historical Antecedents: Why the Holocaust?" He also has translated into English several French and German articles and books including five of the essays included in this anthology (Source: Dust Jacket). From a posting by Steven H. found on-line. A DIVERSE COLLECTION OF ESSAYS ABOUT VARIOUS ASPECTS OF THE HOLOCAUST. The editors of this 1988 book wrote in the Foreword, "The truthful telling of the story of the Holocaust is the first obligation, and all disciplines and fields of learning share in that responsibility in the schools and congregations, and in the written and spoken word. Since the Holocaust, and the other fields of Nazi genocide related to it, implemented the official ideology and program of a totalitarian state, by definition the study of the phenomena involves all fields of learning any honest confrontation with the story must lead to exercises in self-examination by educated professionals work on the Holocaust is now expanding in two directions. First, there is a great increase in the collecting and editing of sources Second, there is a marked increase in the number of writers willing to risk talking about 'the lessons of the Holocaust.' To the 'revisionists' and others who cannot bear to confront our recent history, the increase in the volume of scholarly materials is simply not met by more fervent suppression of memory This volume carries research and reflection to the next level of confrontation with the story and its lessons." The Introduction explains, "Since 1970 an increasing number of religious, academic and civic conferences have brought the story of the Holocaust to millions of people the pioneers of Holocaust study and research have seen their ranks dramatically reinforced. This volume is truly cosmopolitan in scope. From among those uniquely qualified to instruct us on the Holocaust, survivors, historians, sociologists, philosophers and theologians from Canada, Denmark, France Germany Israel and the United States are here represented." This book will be of keen interest to those studying the Holocaust.
