From an on-line posting: "As a paratrooper, he served in Army Intelligence during World War II, also serving during the Korean War. He spent 30 years in the Army Reserve, retiring as a Brigadier General in 1974. His honors include a Silver Star and the Purple Heart. Dr. Jacobs attended Louisiana State University before the war, completing his undergraduate and Masters Degree and receiving a Ph.D. in International Law from Columbia University in 1961. He was a professor of Government and Politics at The University of Maryland from 1961-1978. During those years, he served as a consultant to several government agencies. " From Wikipedia: "Robert Littell (born January 8, 1935) is an American novelist and journalist who resides in France. He specializes in spy novels that often concern the CIA and the Soviet Union. Littell was born in Brooklyn, New York, to a Jewish family, of Russian Jewish origin. He is a 1956 graduate of Alfred University in western New York. He spent four years in the U.S. Navy and served at times as his ship's navigator, antisubmarine warfare officer, communications officer, and deck watch officer.
