SNEEUWBALLENGEVECHT Tekening met potlood, pen en waterverf van de hand van Frédéric Théodore Lix (1830-1897). Gesigneerd "F. Lix"' linksonder. Afm.: 15 x 19 cm. Frédéric Lix staat bekend om zijn boekillustraties en tekende voor verschillende Franse tijdschriften zoals Le Magazin Pittoresque en L'Illustration. Hij werd beloond met een 3e prijs op de Parijse Salon van 1880 en kreeg een bronzen medaille voor zijn werk tijdens de wereldtentoonstelling van 1889. In zijn Camera Obscura (1840) verhaalt Hildebrand over sneeuwpret: "Daar stijgt de vrolijkheid ten top en het kleine grut glijdt, scharrelt, en zwiert, en draait door elkander, en valt op een hoop en poeiert elkaar met sneeuw". Dichter en tijdgenoot Jan Pieter Heije zong: Sneeuw bedekt de landen, Wascht de kille handen Dat ze tintlend branden, Kneedt den sneeuwbal vast; Krachtig de arm geheven: Ha! Dat is een leven, Dat aan jongens past! Op de voorstelling van Frédéric Lix voeren kameraadjes een compleet sneeuwballengevecht uit. Geen treffender indruk van zo'n speelse, maar met vurigheid gestreden confrontatie dan deze tekening, waar zelfs tromgeroffel niet ontbreekt en de overwinnaars de vlag hijsen.
