Tessa (B…axter) leads an impoverished family holding a dinner for a soldier returning from war. They don't receive the soldier they expected, and the charming stranger Sgt. Eric (Hodiak) quickly involves himself. The film was reprised for radio by Lux Radio Theatre in 1945, with original starring actors performing. Shot on location in Florida. 8 x 10 inches, one slightly larger, two single-weight, glossy, and one double weight, matte. Very Good plus, faint discoloration to the matte still, small surface chips and brief creases to the glossy stills.

The booklet is profusely illustrated throughout (including the front and back covers) with b/w photogravure images and photomontage, depicting scenes and characters from the film. The musical film, which was Jolson's follow-up to his immensely successful and groundbreaking "The Jazz Singer", was also a huge hit, breaking box-office records and solidifying him as among the greatest entertainers of the era. Text in German throughout. Wrappers with some rubbing and creasing along the spine. Light creasing to the back cover and to some corners. A small stain on the front cover. Vintage keybook photograph of Janet Leigh and Donald O'Connor from the 1953 film, with a mimeo snipe affixed to the verso. From the archive of noted Hollywood still photographer Ray Jones. Born in Wisconsin on January 1, 1901, Jones worked for Paramount Pictures in the early 1930s, and went on to be the head of the still photogr…aphy department at Universal Pictures in 1935, where he worked well into the 1950s. A war veteran joins a minstrel show, falling in love with the show's patriarch's daughter in the process. 10 x 8 inches. With faint emulsion irregularities, else Near Fine.
