Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Gems of Home Scenery: Wicklow and Killarney. FIRST EDITION, 1876. Small quarto; green cloth with black and gilt stamped elaborate design to front and spine, blind ruled floral device to rear. Bevelled boards. All edges gilt. Predominantly bright and clean but with four small b…rown (ink?) stains, three to the back, one small one bottom front. Spine ends gently pushed, light rubbing and edgewear but no significant faults. 83pp + ads. CONTENTS: The Dargle; Glendalough; The Lakes of Killarney. CHROMOGRAPHS: Frontis-The Dargle; Glendalough and Seven Churches; Eagle's Nest; Gap of Dunloe; Old Weir Bridge; Glengariff. INITIAL VIGNETTES: The Dargle; Glendalough; Ross Castle; Glengariff. WOOD ENGRAVINGS: Glen of the Dargle; Glen of the Downs; The "Sugar Loaf" St Kevin's Kitchen and Round Tower; Entrance to "Our Lady's Church"; Remains of the Monastery; St Kevin's Bed; Upper Lake, Killarney, from the grounds of Mucross Abbey; Lough Leane; Gap of Dunloe; Aghadoe; Ruins of Mucross Abbey; Mucross Abbey; Upper Lake, Killarney; Old Bridge; Gap of Dunloe. Text block predominantly still tight; some odd gapping between sections, nothing much. Pages generally browning somewhat from age and handling, but no specific markings or inscriptions. Eps black, the ffep having a bold name and date contemporary with the book, but hard to see now as it is in dark ink : A. J. Lumb, January 30th, 1876. The woodcuts are exquisite, and match the coloured plates in their appeal. Chromolithographs tipped-in, very bright and clean. In certain bright light some transparent marks from the gum can be seen here and there on the surface, although these are not normally apparent. The images also each have a gilt ruled border, which have an offset mark to opposite page. Mercifully free from foxing apart from a few small occasional dots. Overall, a decent copy of this uncommon title. PLEASE SEE FIVE ACCOMPANYING IMAGES. FREE p&p within the U.K. Additional postage may be requested from buyers outside the U.K. where necessary. (25% of all proceeds from FARRAGO sales donated to the Motor Neurone Disease Association).
