Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book is a meticulous survey of the working conditions and wages of women in Washington D.C. during the Great Depression. The author examines specific industries and the conditions therein, such as: laundries, dry-cleaning, manufacturing and retail stores, beauty shops, hotels, and restaurants. The author provides useful comparative data and focuses particularly on the impact that the implementation of minimum wage laws had on the earnings of women. The study also includes information on hours worked, differences in pay between different roles, and data on tips and other non-monetary forms of compensation. This book provides important documentation on the challenges faced by women in the American workforce in the 1930s. It is an invaluable resource for work in women's history, labor history, and economic history. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
