Abstract: The paper deals with modern condensing locomotives both of the reciprocating and turbine types. The authors emphasize that such locomotives have recently been built in order to attain one of two mutually incompatible objects, namely, either the achievement of a very high efficiency in temperate climates, or the building of locomotives which lose no water for hot, waterless countries. The first object is best attained by use of a turbine with high vacuum, while the second is most readily achieved with a reciprocating engine having no vacuum at all. The latter has the advantage over Diesel locomotives in that any kind of fuel can be used. This book delves into the tumultuous history of the Russian Revolution, shedding light on the Bolshevik's rise to power and the complex interplay of political, economic, and social forces that shaped their rule. The author presents a comprehensive analysis of the events leading up to the revolution, exploring the deep-seated grievances and aspirations of the Russian people. This book examines the Bolsheviks' struggle against the Provisional Government, their seizure of power, and the subsequent civil war that raged across Russia. It also explores the Bolsheviks' attempts to establish a socialist society, their repressive measures, and the challenges they faced in governing a vast and diverse nation. By situating the Russian Revolution within the broader context of Russian history, this book offers a nuanced understanding of the revolution's causes, consequences, and its profound impact on Russia and the world. The author, a high-ranking official in the Russian Ministry of Ways of Communication, details his observations from the Romanian front and then in Petrograd during the tumultuous days of February 1917. He describes the growing discontent within the military and civilian population, fuelled by food shortages and the perceived incompetence of the Tsarist government. The author, a former revolutionary, provides a fascinating glimpse into the social and political tensions that were brewing in Russia, and how the Tsar's abdication was a culmination of these pressures. The book presents a unique perspective on the revolution, focusing on the role of the Duma, the emergence of the Soviet of Workersââ ⢠Deputies, and the complexities of communication and control in a time of upheaval. This book provides a compelling narrative of the Russian Revolution through the eyes of a witness, revealing the chaotic and often contradictory nature of the revolutionââ â¢s early days.
