La presente obra, escrita por dos jóvenes científicos miembros del cuerpo docente de la Facultad de Química de la Universidad Lomonosov de Moscú, V. P. Spiridonov, doctor en ciencias químicas, y A. A. Lopatkin, candidato a doctor en ciencias químicas, brinda a los estudiantes de física y química los medios para dominar teórica y prácticamente los métodos matemáticos de tratamiento de los datos experimentales, con los que se tropiezan tanto en el período estudiantil como en la vida profesional y científica especializada. Aquí se exponen las nociones fundamentales de estadística matemática y de la teoría de los errores, suficientes para interpretar las formulas y las diversas tablas utilizadas en el tratamiento de los datos experimentales. Se presentan por separado los métodos de estimación de los errores sistemáticos y del error accidental en relación con el poder resolutivo del aparato con que se trabaja. Se proporcionan los esquemas del análisis regresivo para la dependencia lineal entre variables. Se examina con bastante detenimiento el problema de la estimación de las hipótesis. El ultimo capítulo está dedicado a los diversos métodos gráficos, analíticos y numéricos para la obtención de formulas empíricas, así como a la diferenciacion y a la integración gráfica y analítica. En la parte suplementaria se incluye una serie de tablas útiles para los cálculos. El libro no solo contiene las soluciones finales de los problemas, sino también lleva expuestos claramente los medios de su obtención, que de ordinario son variados y requieren del operador cierta inventiva e intuición. Esta es la causa por la que los autores han tratado de exponer los métodos mas importantes de tratamiento de los datos experimentales y se han esforzado en demostrar las amplias posibilidades abiertas ante quienes se interesen por los problemas del análisis numérico. A pesar de que el libro no abarca todos los problemas referentes al tratamiento de los datos fisico-quimicos, sin embargo el dominio de los fundamentos de un numero de métodos aquí expuestos, aunque sea limitado, permitirá orientarse en sus innumerables variantes, que continuamente se tropieza en la literatura y manuales especializados. Este libro esta destinado a los estudiantes de fisicoquímica y a la vez, puede ser de gran utilidad para los ingenieros y especialistas de la rama.

They play a great role in modern mathematics. It is enough to mention the quantum groups and Hopf algebra theory, the Kac-Moody and Borcherds algebra theory, the braid groups and Hecke algebra theory, the Coxeter groups and semisimple Lie algebra theory, the plactic monoid theory. One of the main problems for such presentations is the problem of normal forms of their elements. Classical examples of such normal forms give the Poincar-Birkhoff-Witt theorem for universal enveloping algebras and Artin-Markov normal form theorem for braid groups in Burau generators.What is now called Grbner-Shirshov bases theory is a general approach to the problem. It was created by a Russian mathematician A I Shirshov (1921-1981) for Lie algebras (explicitly) and associative algebras (implicitly) in 1962. A few years later, H Hironaka created a theory of standard bases for topological commutative algebra and B Buchberger initiated this kind of theory for commutative algebras, the Grbner basis theory. The Shirshov paper was largely unknown outside Russia. The book covers this gap in the modern mathematical literature. Now Grbner-Shirshov bases method has many applications both for classical algebraic structures (associative, Lie algebra, groups, semigroups) and new structures (dialgebra, pre-Lie algebra, Rota-Baxter algebra, operads). This is a general and powerful method in algebra.
