PROFUSELY ILLUSTRATED in black-and-white photography (many full page or double-page) with accompanying descriptive captions. "In keeping with Quaker beliefs, the AFSC maintains that every person has value in the eyes of God and that human life is sacred. Therefore, taking the life of another human being is never justified. We are also aware that the death penalty has historically targeted people who have little or no money. By and large, that means people of color and those unable to afford a complete defense. In addition, the death penalty has not served as a deterrent to crime and has been used to execute innocent people. This takes away valuable resources from other, more effective ways of combating crime. A main focus of the work has been through the Religious Organizing Against the Death Penalty Project (www.dathpenalty religious. org), which has galvanized and organized the religious community to be vocal and visible in the struggle for abolition." 118 pages. The Northeastern University Press' DJ blurb exults: "The portraits and voices in the work humanize these condemned men and women without minimizing the magnitude of the offenders' crimes or the pain of the victims and their families." *NOTE: Additional shipping cost may be required for OUT-OF-U.S. shipment in accordance with destination.
