Because the author died before publication the publisher obtained a number of Holmes' signed checks. The signature was then clipped from the check and affixed to a bound/insterted page and numbered making these the only "signed" editions. The signature sheet is protected by a clear plastic insert. There is a sheet prepared by the publisher in explanation dropped in. DJ is clear flexible plastic. In the "Nebraska Heritage Series." Index. Illustrated with photos and maps. Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good+. Condizione sovraccoperta: No Dust Jacket. Fort McPherson was also known as Fort Cottonwood and was located near North Platte, Nebraska on the North Platte River. It was an Indian Wars era Army fort first occupied in 1863 and built to help protect travelers crossing the plains on the Oregon and California trails. It was abandoned in 1880. The author has prepared a comprehensive history of this fort and the role it played in the Indian wars and western migration. Contains appendices, sources, bibligraphy, and an index in the rear. This copy is the stated "Centennial Edition." Original publisher's gray cloth covers with silver spine lettering and a pictorial cover decoration. This is probably the most complete history of his army fort of which there is now no trace save for a monument on the site. There is a previous owner's neat bookplate on the front pastedown, else this is a nice clean, tight and unmarked book with no interior or exterior markings. ; Nebraska Heritage Series Series; B&W Illustrations & Photographs, Maps; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 108 pages.
