Vignetta calcografica con sfera armillare al frontespizio. Ottimo esemplare. Celebre pamphlet anonimo, ma scritto da Louis Helian, ferocemente antiveneziano, tanto che le prime due edizioni vennero prima proibite e poi date alle fiamme dalla Serenissima. La presente dovrebbe costituire la quinta o la sesta edizione dopo le due o tre di Mirandola, Benincasa, 1612 e 1619 (due secondo Melzi, tre secondo Piantanida); quella di Genova, Guasco, 1653; e quella di Venezia, Tomasini, 1654. Così l'opera viene descritta proprio dal Piantanida (1013), "Famoso libello satirico contro la Repubblica veneta mediante il quale l'anonimo autore intese dimostrare che la libertà originaria della repubblica vantata dagli scrittori veneziani, non sussisteva, ma che invece Venezia è un antico dominio dell'Impero Romano e che di conseguenza l'imperatore del Sacro Romano Impero conserva sulla repubblica i suoi diritti e le sue pretese. Per la sua brevità, la scelta erudizione, la molta pratica di storia e di giurisprudenza, i fatti e gli spunti di critica esposti con novità, l'opuscolo ebbe enorme diffusione e molte ristampe". Nella presente edizione del 1681 compare per la prima volta il discorso dell'ambasciatore francese Louis Helian, che propone addirittura la distruzione di Venezia, scritto dopo la battaglia di Agnadello. Vinciana, curiosamente, dedica ben cinque schede al libello: 1013, 1014, 1015 (tre edizioni con varianti del 1612), 1016 (edizione del 1619), 1028 (edizione del 1653, attribuita a Raffaele Della Torre).
