La geografía colombiana es extremadamente diversa: de este a oeste se extiende desde el río Orinoco hasta el Océano Pacífico y de norte a sur desde el Caribe hasta las cabeceras de la cuenca amazónica. Los Andes están conformados por tres cadenas montañosas principales separadas por los valles del Cauca y del Magdalena.
